. said he's all about fighting for the middle class. says he cut taxes for everybody. and ask something from nobody, but the problem is we heard those promises before. keep in mind, governor romney lives a few miles south of here in the state of massachusetts. love massachusetts. [ cheers ] but during governor romney's campaign for governor down there, he promised the same thing he's promising now. said he'd fight for jobs and middle class families, but once he took office, he pushed through a tax cut that overwhelmingly benefited 278 of the wealthiest families in the state and raised taxes and fees to middle class families to the tune of $750 million. does that sound familiar to you? when asked about this, he says these weren't taxes, these were fees, but keep in mind, there were higher fees to be a barber, higher fees to become a nurse. there were higher fees for gas. there were higher fees for milk. there were higher fees for blind people who needed to get a certificate that they were blind. he raised fees to get a birth certificate which would have been expensive for me. . an electronics business. and he said that he and his son calculated how much money they were paying in taxes of what they earned. now, it is not a big business. four people, four employees. he said when they calculated their income tax, and then their payroll tax, and then their state income tax, then their gas tax, and then their real estate tax, it was over half of what they made. and he said think about this, we take a big risk to start a business. and then if we're one of the lucky ones where the business succeeds, the government wants to take half of what we make. so what i want to do, i want to lower the tax rates for small business. [ cheers and applause ] >> and i want to -- i want you to know, for business to work you have to have regulations and rulings. but i want to reportings to recognize their job is not just to catch the buy guys, as important as that, is, but also to encourage people -- small business has something right now that scares the dickens out of them. and that is obama care. that is one reason we have to get rid of it. now, for us though do those five things, is goi

"the new york times" editorial board slammed romney for his position on fema today writing disaster coordination is one of the most vital functions of big government, which is why mitt romney wants to eliminate it. does mr. romney really believe financially strapped states would do a better job

the totally unimpeachbly nonpartisan and widely respected tax policy center did a report that concluded that mitt romney's tax plan would be great for rich people, and would hurt everybody else, the romney campaign's response to that was to go guns blazing against the nonpartisan tax policy center. just attacking them as an institutions. you don't like the message, shoot the messenger. last month after the bureau of labor statistics announced that the unemployment rate was going down, do you remember what the response was on the right? the right started attacking the bureau of labor statistics, as if they were the problem, because they said the unemployment rate was going down. it used to be that democrats and republicans would argue about how best to deal with some factual thing, some problem facing the nation. now, republicans do it differently. they do it differently than everybody else. this is not a mirror image problem on both sides. republicans do a specific thing. they refuse to acknowledge that a factual thing is a factual thing. and this phenomenon on the right, that we got so

of taxes. everybody's been talking about these swing states as if the tail can wag the dog. somehow if you win the swing states, you affect the whole rest of the country in doing so, when that's the residue. but if you spend all your advertising money and all your grassroots, all your social media, and you focus it all on ohio, that doesn't help you win in pennsylvania. it doesn't help you in minnesota or michigan. i'm wondering whether they got the thing wrong, possibly, the obama people, by putting all their faith in winning those seven states, or most of them. what do you think? >> i think that because of the electoral college, elections, presidential elections have to focus on swing states and have to focus on these emerging purple states, because as it turns out, the elections sometimes do hinge on them. this election does seem to hinge on these particular swing states. the reason why the polling is so confusing, chris, is because sometimes national polls don't take into effect the fact that we have an electoral college, don't take into effect that some of these swing states will be s

's a slope. they gradually go into these tax increases and spending cuts. they feel they can turn around and walk back up the slope, retroactively reverse the changes. in that circumstance, in that scenario, it creates a lot of uncertainty for businesses and for taxpayers. what will our taxes be next year? how are we going to make some plans for our business or personal finances? it's that uncertainty that's going to, i think, have adverse effects for the economy. >> okay. that makes a lot of sense. michael jones, how do you want to invest here with all this? >> i think there are times when the market is really simple. don't fight the fed. you certainly don't want to fight the fed when they've got the ecb, the bank of japan, the people's bank of china, and virtually every other central bank on their side. you've had unprecedentedly aggressive monetary stimulus. we have open-ended commitments to continuing that stimulus. that's a tail wind that i think investors ignore at their peril. the only things holding the market back are some uncertainties of the fiscal cliff, over what kind of ter

this as their friends and encourage them and support them, and by the way, we can't tax them to death. i was with a business person in st. louis, four employees in the electronics business. he said that he and his son calculated how much money they send to the government every year out of their business and he put down how much for the federal income tax and the federal payroll tax and the state income tax and real estate tax and gasoline tax. and it was over half of what they made. and he said, think about this. you start a business, your chance of success is not even as good as 50-50. most small businesses won't make it so it's a risky thing to do. then if you're successful the government wants more than half of what you make and so a lot of people decide not to build businesses. today we are at the lowest level of new business start ups in 30 years. i want to change this dynamic and make business recognize they have a friend in washington, not a foe. and i believe if we do that, we do those five things and get those five done we are going to create 12 million new jobs and more take ho

wanted to take all the time to fox news to explain the details of the tax plan, but the campaign wouldn't let him. that would be my guess. and i think that he has a lot of good will in the republican party, particularly in the conservative base. he can probably get away with that. by the way, the narrative that is not emerging which i thought was going to be a bigger problem for ryan was, you know, potentially the ryan plan and the medicare, quote, unquote, voucherization was going to kill them in florida, in particular, and really be an electoral loser and demonize the ryan plan, and nobody was going to want to touch that idea again. i don't think that really hasn't yet been a big theme in the campaign. so actually, i think that's good news for ryan and it's something that he's not going to have to spend as much time on the defensive about. by the way, if romney loses, i think i said this last time, if romney loses ohio by a half point or a point, there's going to be second-guessing should he have picked rob portman for the political expedience. >> there's going to be second-guessing o

taxes and not cut any services like for example the military. that s the question we have to answer and the only way we can get to it is to really look at democrats and republicans, not blame each other but sit down and literally look at this. the supercommittee had a try. democrats, republicans, they were not able to do it. this was the agreement that was done, the sequestration. i think if we are going to do cuts we ought to do that across-the-board where everybody has skin in the game and have cuts across the board to reduce the deficit. >> geraldo: congressman blackburn, did you -- >> let me say something there. because i support across-the-board cuts in discretionary spending. every year i run bills calling for 1, 2 and 5% across the board. what you have to realize is that this administration had gone in and made deep cuts into the -- our military services, into d.o.d. and then they did it again with the sequestration. doubled up on that. so the problem becomes you are cutting them more than everybody else. if you were to give them just what you were going to cut everyone else
